Conditions to apply for Canadian citizenship

To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must:

1.**Be a permanent resident** of Canada
2.**Have physically resided** in Canada for at least 1,095 days (3 years) in the last 5 years
3.**File income tax returns** if required to do so
4.**Speak French or English** (CLB 4 level or equivalent)
5.**Be at least 18 years old** (minors can be included in a parent's application)
6.**Not have been convicted** of certain criminal offences

Calculating residence days

Only days physically spent in Canada count. Time abroad for work or vacation does not factor into the calculation.
